Can Grey Daemonhunters be Competitive?

So, I've been wondering if a Daemonhunters army can be competitive..... So, Here is what I've come up with:

Bear in mind, it's the best I can do with Daemonhunters... and well, it's the best I can do:

2,000 Points Daemonhunters

Grand Master   -  195
  - Nemesis Force Weapon, Psycannon, Psychic Hood

Grand Master   -  195

  - Nemesis Force Weapon, Psycannon, Psychic Hood

Grey Knight Terminator Squad  -  254
  - 2 Terminators w/ Nemesis Force Weapons & Storm Bolters
  - 1 Terminator w/ Nemesis Force Weapon & Psy Cannon
  - 1 Brother Captain w/ Nemesis Force Weapon & Psy Cannon

Grey Knight Terminator Squad  -  254

  - 2 Terminators w/ Nemesis Force Weapons & Storm Bolters
  - 1 Terminator w/ Nemesis Force Weapon & Psy Cannon
  - 1 Brother Captain w/ Nemesis Force Weapon & Psy Cannon

Inquisitorial Stormtroopers  -  120
  - 2x Melta Guns, 3x Inquisitorial Stormtroopers w/ Hellguns

  - Rhino

  - Rhino

  - Rhino

Inquisitorial Stormtroopers  -  100
  - 5x Inquisitorial Storm Troopers
  - Rhino

Inquisitorial Stormtroopers  -  100
  - 5x Inquisitorial Storm Troopers
  - Rhino

Gray Knight Land Raider  -  268
  - Psycannon Bolts, Smoke Launchers, Extra Armor

Gray Knight Land Raider  -  268

  - Psycannon Bolts, Smoke Launchers, Extra Armor

You load the 2 Grand Masters in the Land Raiders each attached to a GKT squad. they are your hammers, you aim those at the nastiest thing that you can and go after it.

You have 2 unlimited range Hoods to keep your Psy defense up.

You also have 5 scoring units in armor. park the 2 cheap units behind cover near objectives to tank shock any infantry on it for a last chance grab.

Run your other 3 forward (you have a lot of anti-tank in this army with 3 squads of 2 shootable melta guns from rhinos plus 2 sets of 2 twin linked las cannons to take out some lighter armor.

Like I said, it's the best I can do. 44 models is not a lot, but you just have to play smart.

  1. Be careful bandying about the term "all grey knights"... there are some crazy purists who save that term for lists that only include grey knights. And apparently they can be "competitive," though they take a lot of skill to use.

Check out Way of the Water Warrior on Bolter and Chainsword- good tactica on the issue.

  4. Why is are the Termies not in the GM's retinue? You don't have to pay for the brother Captain and the GM can't be singled out in combat!

Not sure if I would want to pay for the GM, 84 points for basicly 2 wounds. If you are in a retinue and in a Landraider that isn't going to do mutch very soon. Won't count on that force weapon doing mutch eiter. Name a unit that you cannot reliably kill in CC, which you could kill if you had that force weapon.

Also why isn't there at least 1 Thunderhammer in the Termie squads? And you'll probably want some flamers on those special-weapon-less IST's.

  5. i have a few points i want to comment/advise on:

    1. arent you allowed only 1 grandmaster?. i thought that there is 0-1 grey knight hero restriction allowed in the army.

    2. make more advantage of the grey knights rules. instead of landraiders put in some dreadnoughts and give ur stormtrooper veteran a teleport homer. grey knight terminators with ur grandmaster are always allowed to teleport even in missions that does not allow teleport. this can be a real advantage for u. This gives ur terminators as well to get closer to the foe without taking much damage bec they are a real target for ur apponent. they are furth allot of point and once in CC real scary.
